My distant aunt, Lizzy van Dorp (1872-1945), was the first woman in the Netherlands to complete her law degree, in 1901. She co-founded the Association of Female Students in Leiden (VVSL) in 1901 and became its first chair. After earning her PhD under Professor Jacques Oppenheim in 1903, she began her own law practice, focusing on the protection of the rights of divorced women and children. As a member of the liberal Freedom League, she was also politically active. She later gained a name as the first female economist. It's high time she was rescued from oblivion.'
