I have nostalgic memories of the old lecture hall on Garenmarkt, used for teaching geology. This hall, if I remember correctly, consisted of oak benches and continuous tables that creaked with age. This was very fitting for the general geology lectures we were given there by Professor Antonie Pannekoek, who enlivened his lectures with ‘magic lantern slides,’ as he called them. This sometimes led to dozing students on Monday mornings!
