The Print Room of Leiden University was established in 1814 and was linked to the Art History Institute at Kloksteeg 25. From 1974 to 2001, it was independently located at Rapenburg 65. The collections of old drawings, prints, and photographs were later incorporated into the University Libraries of Leiden. Hundreds of art history students were introduced to the graphic arts in the monumental building on Rapenburg. The curators were our professors. After graduating in 1982, I worked for another four years as a PhD candidate in that beautiful setting.
The name 'Het Prentenkabinet' (the Print Room) was later adopted by the well-known restaurant in Kloksteeg, in the building where the Print Room/Art History Institute once resided. The International Tax Center Leiden is now located at Rapenburg 65.
