I love the sculptures in the Hortus Botanicus by Ans van Haersolte. These reinforced concrete sculptures were created to mark the university's 400th anniversary in 1975 and donated to the Hortus. Dolf Cohen was Rector Magnificus at the time. He commissioned Ans van Haersolte to create the sculpture group for this anniversary. Ans van Haersolte's husband was a professor of philosophy in Leiden, while Dolf Cohen's wife, Hetty Cohen, was friends with Ans. The sculptures are in prime position opposite the Orangery in the Hortus and are not to be missed!
