Our university has a pioneering role as a global knowledge centre in international children's rights. In 2012, the UNICEF Chair was established: a unique collaboration between Leiden University, UNICEF Netherlands and the Leiden University Fund. Thanks to this chair, we have developed groundbreaking initiatives, such as the Master of Laws Programme in International Children’s Rights. This unique LL.M. programme provides students with specialised knowledge and professional skills to advocate for children's rights worldwide. The Leiden Children’s Rights Observatory was also founded, serving as an open platform for children's rights jurisprudence that enhances children’s access to justice.
In this video, honorary doctor Graça Machel reflects on the UNICEF Chair in Children's Rights in Leiden.
