Emeritus Professor of History of Dutch Marijke van der Wal's 'Letters as loot' project. Unique 17th- and 18th-century letters were examined from 2008 to 2013. Letters seized from men, women, and children provided a unique insight into historical language use and society during this period. My role as a transcriber kept me on my toes during a period of unemployment.
