Universiteit Leiden

At the heart of the city

At the heart of the city

Contribution: Julia Cramer (physicist, chair of Young Academy Leiden)

Leiden University is special to me because since it was founded it has been at the heart of the city, literally and figuratively. The University and the city are inextricably linked. I also think it’s special how the university conducts research in the broadest way possible. From basic to applied research, from child and education studies to quantum physics. Young Academy Leiden brings this all together for me. As a member and current chair, I work with academics from many fascinating research areas. I have gained more insight into all the university’s organisational layers and connected with people outside the university. This is incredibly valuable! Young Academy Leiden makes me feel like I belong in Leiden, as both an academic and a citizen.
