The Academic Historical Museum was founded in 1931 and aimed to make the history of the university visible in the Academy Building. A photo from that era reveals a nearly empty cabinet in the museum's initial workspace, captured by Mrs. Octavie Idenburg-Siegenbeek van Heukelom, the museum's inaugural curator. Today, that same cabinet, now housed in my office, has become completely filled. The collection in the Academy Building is now sprawling. I believe our Octavie would be gleefully observing the museum's evolution. Soon, the fascinating collection of the Academic Historical Museum will move from the Academy Building to the University Library. A collection to cherish.
