Charity event after tsunami

Contribution: Ebed Litaay (Indonesian Language and Cultures alumnus)

As chair of the Permai Study Association, together with Tom Hoogervorst, who studied Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia and Oceania, I organised an Indonesian 'Selamatan' (charity evening) on 10 February 2005. There was live music, poets, dancers and 13 Indonesian dishes in the Lipsius building. More than 500 people came along.

We held this evening after the devastating tsunami on 26 December 2004, which claimed many lives. The proceeds went to Syiah Kuala University in Aceh. Rector Magnificus Douwe Breimer doubled the amount raised.
