My source of inspiration Mark Rutte

Mark Rutte

Contribution: Tom van Leeuwen (history student)

Mark Rutte led the Netherlands for thirteen years, shaping the country into what it is today. He gained his knowledge at Leiden University. Mark Rutte is my source of inspiration for studying history at Leiden University.

Regarding his history studies, Mark Rutte once said: 'For me, the most fascinating thing about History is looking at those periods when things were just managing to remain good, before going off the rails. That's where to look for why do things go wrong.' During his studies he focused on the period of the Republic, just before the invasion by the French at the end of the 18th century.
