Peeking at the moon With my father at the observatory

With my father at the observatory

Contribution: Kevin Idenburg (coordinator magazines special collections)

The one truly important person at the university, for me, was my father. As a child, I often visited him at work. He was a maintenance technician at Van der Klaauw Tower at the Leiden Observatory. A tall, grand building full of secret rooms. It was amazing to get a peek at the moon through the Observatory's telescopes. A tour in the Hortus botanicus was, of course, also a must. My first employer was Leiden University, so my father became my colleague as well.
