Jasmijn’s 3D-printed heart, which is now on display at the Boerhaave Museum. Together with pediatric heart surgeon Mark Hazekamp and many others, I contributed to this innovation and am proud that it has earned a place in Leiden’s (Medical) History!
The heart model was used to prepare for a highly complex surgery on Jasmijn when she was just three months old. Rijksmuseum Boerhaave reached out to the doctors, asking if the heart model could become part of the museum collection. In the presence of Jasmijn, her parents, and her brother, the model was handed over to Rijksmuseum Boerhaave. The family received a lifelong membership to the museum.
