My grandfather, C.W.A. van der Hoek, was the founder of (student) café Barrera. Now a well-known establishment in Leiden, it is a vibrant hub of student life. My father, Herman Filippo, took over the café from him. He was present when the film Soldier of Orange was being shot. The film tells the story of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema and his role in the Dutch resistance during World War II, with several scenes filmed in and around Leiden.
