Leiden professor Christine Mummery was the first in the Netherlands to use human pluripotent stem cells for her research. This special type of cell can develop into all the cell types in our body. As a result, they can be used to study human tissue in the lab and treat chronic diseases.
At LUMC, a large number of researchers are now working with human stem cells on future treatments. To bring together expertise and knowledge in this field, Leiden stem cell researchers from various departments and research groups have been working in shared labs since 2023. They do so in a building at Leiden Bio Science Park, shared with NecstGen and Astellas: Mirai House.
