As a lecturer, I think of all (former) students of Leiden University. Without students, there is no university. The word "university" itself refers to this: Universitas magistrorum et scholarium (a community of teachers and students). Some (former) students have been very successful—think of diverse figures such as Hugo Grotius, Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema (the Soldier of Orange), and Maarten 't Hart. But successful or not, all students shape the university. Personally, I have greatly enjoyed the wonderful task of educating young people. Moreover, well-educated students are essential for the future of a country.
