Universiteit Leiden

University and city are closely entwined University life

Contribution: Christine Smittenaar (Alumnus of Dutch Language and Literature)

Leiden University is closely entwined with the city − my city − and my life along with that of at least one of my children. That is why I am so proud of my Alma Mater. I made lifelong friends there, worked with inspiring people and attended lectures, meetings, lunches, ceremonies and protests in beautiful (and less beautiful) buildings. I played sports at the sports centre, studied in the Hortus botanicus and soaked up culture at LAK. I was present when Princess Beatrix and Nelson Mandela received their honorary doctorates.

In short: I learned so much at university and had the best time of my life. It ticked all the boxes and that makes me a fan, enthusiast and super-ambassador.
