Drawings, prints and photographs The Leiden University Print Room

The Leiden University Print Room

Contribution: Albert Elen (art history alumnus)

The Leiden University Print Room dates from 1814 and was linked to the Art History Institute at Kloksteeg 25. From 1974 to 2001, it was located at Rapenburg 65. The collections of old drawings, prints and photographs were later added to the Leiden University Libraries collection. Hundreds of art history students were introduced to the graphic arts in the historical building on Rapenburg and our professors were the curators. After graduating in 1982, I worked for another four years in that beautiful setting as a PhD candidate.

The name 'Het Prentenkabinet' (the Print Room) was later adopted by the restaurant in Kloksteeg, in the building that once housed the Print Room/Art History Institute. The International Tax Center Leiden is now located at Rapenburg 65.
