There we sat, in 1960, heads clean shaven in front of the Minerva society on Breestraat. Our year group from that time still meets annually. Not at Minerva but elsewhere in the country. We may be fewer in numbers but we're still full of life.
It was during those years that I came to understand the significance of play. Mores, traditions, etiquette, rituals and customs − I discovered the element of play in all these behaviours. And I still benefit from this over 60 years later. Play the game well, not to win, be right or cancel anyone but to enjoy your social life.
