The Leiden Manifesto for research metrics describes ten principles for the fair and responsible evaluation of scientific research. Metrics and statistics are often used to measure research performance, but they do not always provide a complete picture. The manifesto warns against blindly relying on numbers and emphasizes that expert judgment should always be central. It has contributed to initiatives such as Academia in Motion, which aim to improve the evaluation and recognition of scientists and their work. The Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University played a key role in developing the Leiden Manifesto.
